VWO Alternatives for Shopify: 8 Tools Priced Sept 2026

Last verified:

For a Shopify store under 500k sessions a month, the best VWO alternative is Shoplift: a native app that tests themes and templates from inside Shopify, gives a Bayesian verdict, and publishes every rung of its ladder from $99 a month. If your questions are about price, shipping or offers rather than layout, Intelligems from $69 a month is the better buy. And before you pay anyone, run the free one: Shopify Rollouts splits whole themes with no app fee on the Grow plan.

By Misha Gavura · 15 min read · Every price on this page was read off the vendor's own pricing page or Shopify App Store listing on September 3, 2026. Nothing here comes from a third-party roundup.

All eight, one table

Ranked for a Shopify store under 500k sessions a month. "Native" means the tool ships as a Shopify app or a Shopify feature and does not inject a script into your theme. Entry price is the lowest monthly figure the vendor publishes today.

Tool Entry price Metered on Native or script Price testing Best for
Shoplift $99 / mo Monthly store visitors Shopify app Advanced ($399), beta Theme and template tests with a verdict
Intelligems $69 / mo Monthly orders Shopify app Unlimited ($349) Profit-scored tests across the funnel
Shopify Rollouts No app fee (Grow plan or higher for experiments) None Shopify feature No Whole-theme and checkout tests, free
ABConvert $99 / mo Test orders Shopify app Growth ($199) Price and shipping tests on a metered budget
Visually $15 / mo Monthly orders Shopify app Not listed Very small stores that also want upsells
Convert $399 / mo ($299 annual) Monthly tested users Script (free connector app) No VWO-style visual editor, published price
Omniconvert $0 (Explore Free, 50K users) Monthly tested users Script No Free script-based testing under 50K users
Kameleoon $495 / mo Tested visitors Script No Prompt-built tests at 50K visitors

The baseline you are leaving: VWO publishes no price at all, meters on monthly tracked users with a separate quota per product, and its Shopify App Store listing is a free connector with zero reviews that "requires a subscription to VWO". Full detail in the next section, and in our VWO on Shopify review.

Why Shopify stores leave VWO

Three things, and all three are visible on VWO's own pages today rather than in anyone's opinion.

The price is a demo. vwo.com/pricing lists Growth, Pro and Enterprise tiers for Testing and the same three for Feature Experimentation, and not one of them carries a number. Every card resolves to "Schedule a Demo". The only figures on the whole page are in the trial copy: a "full featured trial for 30 days", then "free upto 50k monthly tested visitors thereafter". A store comparing tools has to book a call to learn what the second tier costs, and we have written up what that call tends to produce in our VWO pricing guide.

The meter multiplies. VWO's pricing FAQ, in its own words: "Each VWO product maintains a separate quota of MTUs." Testing, Insights and Personalize are bought as separate quotas of monthly tracked users, and a visitor who lands in campaigns from two products is counted once per product. A common quota can be bought, but that is a negotiation, not a plan you can pick.

It is not really a Shopify app. The listing at apps.shopify.com/vwo, launched March 1, 2024, is "Free to install. Additional charges may apply", with a single plan that "Requires a subscription to VWO". Its job is to deploy VWO's tracking code and stream Shopify events through web pixels. Today it shows a 0.0 rating from 0 reviews. The experiments still run from a script VWO loads on your storefront: the thing that flickers, fights your theme's JavaScript, and breaks when you change themes.

None of that makes VWO a bad product. It makes it a product priced and built for a team with a procurement process and a developer, and most stores under 500k sessions have neither. The usual next thought is Optimizely, which publishes even less: no price, no trial, and a third-party App Store connector. Our Optimizely pricing guide for Shopify covers it, and the FAQ below takes the VWO vs Optimizely question head on.

1. Shoplift: the closest thing to VWO that is actually a Shopify app

Shoplift is what most people leaving VWO are looking for. It tests themes, templates and URLs from inside Shopify, reports with "Bayesian predictive analysis", segments mobile against desktop, and applies the winner with one click. The App Store listing shows a 4.9 rating from 134 reviews, launched September 15, 2022, "From $99/month", with a 14-day trial on every plan.

It ranks first because it publishes the whole ladder, including the traffic bands VWO would make you ask about. This is the slider on shoplift.ai/pricing, read off the page today:

Monthly store visitors Core, monthly Core, annual Advanced, monthly Advanced, annual Pro, annual only
Up to 50k visitors $99 $74 $399 $299 $699
50k to 100k $199 $149 $399 $299 $699
100k to 250k N/A N/A $599 $449 $699
250k to 500k N/A N/A $799 $599 $999
500k to 1M N/A N/A $999 $749 $1,499

Above 1M visitors every column reads "Custom pricing". Core stops at 100k visitors, so a store between 100k and 500k is on Advanced at $599 to $799 a month whether or not it wants Advanced's features. And the App Store listing prices Pro at $999 a month while the site sells Pro as annual only, so check which surface you are buying from. Price testing is on Advanced, labelled "beta".

Skip it if your tests are about prices, shipping thresholds or offers. Intelligems and ABConvert were built for that and score on profit; Shoplift vs Intelligems draws the line.

2. Intelligems: if the question is money, start here

Intelligems tests prices, shipping, discounts, checkout and post-purchase offers as well as content, and reports profit per visitor rather than conversion rate, which is the number a price test turns on. Its App Store listing shows a 4.8 rating from 189 reviews, launched December 1, 2021, "From $69/month".

The App Store ladder today: Smart Content at $69 a month ($660 a year), Smart Merchandise and Smart Shipping at $112.10 each ($1,071.60 a year), and Unlimited at $349 ($3,468 a year), all with a 14-day trial. Smart Content covers landing pages, themes and content with profit tracking. Unlimited is where everything including price testing lives, with a storefront audit and a success manager.

The vendor's own site prices a bigger store. intelligems.io/pricing shows a "Get Everything Bundle" at $2,894 a month, discounted to $1,279 with a 3-month minimum, at its top tier of "Up to 200,000 orders", and a build-your-own plan for up to 10,000 orders a month with 5%, 10% and 15% bundle discounts. The per-module prices on that builder only render in the browser, so this page does not quote them. Our Intelligems pricing page tracks both surfaces.

Skip it if you only test layouts and never intend to test a price; Shoplift or Rollouts will do that with less friction. If Intelligems itself got too expensive, we keep a list of Intelligems alternatives.

3. Shopify Rollouts: free, native, and limited on purpose

Rollouts is the A/B test Shopify built into the admin. Per the Help Center, a rollout is a scheduled set of changes to "your online store's main theme, your checkout and accounts pages, or both", as a launch or as an experiment that "compares a treatment against a control so that you can measure their impact before a full launch". The split is set with "preset options or by using the slider". Shopify's product page promises "Statistical analysis with confidence metrics that anyone can use" and "no extra fees".

The one gate that matters: "Your store must be on the Grow plan or higher to run experiments." The March 31, 2026 changelog entry puts scheduling and launching on "Basic plans and above" and market-specific targeting on "Advanced and Plus". So the experiment half is free of an app fee, but only once you are on Shopify's second tier.

Skip it if you need to test a price, a discount or a shipping rate, because none of those is a theme or checkout configuration and Rollouts changes nothing else. A rollout is also a whole-theme split, not a single section. It is still the right first experiment for almost every store on Grow; our Rollouts guide walks through running one properly.

4. ABConvert: price tests, metered on orders

ABConvert is the other native price-testing app, and it meters on test orders rather than traffic, which is the honest unit for a price test. The App Store listing (the live slug is a-b-convert-price-a-b-test; apps.shopify.com/abconvert is a 404) shows a 4.6 rating from 83 reviews, launched October 31, 2022, "From $99/month", 14-day trial on every plan.

The ladder: Starter $99 with 1,000 test orders and $59 per further thousand; Growth $199 with 5,000 and $39 per thousand; Scale $399 with 15,000 and $29 per thousand; Pro $599 with 30,000 and $24 per thousand. Price testing starts on Growth. Shipping, checkout, offer, template, theme and URL tests are on every plan, including Starter. Annual billing on abconvert.io drops the four tiers to $74, $149, $299 and $449 a month.

Skip it if your order volume is thin. A price test at 200 orders a month cannot conclude in any reasonable window, and paying $199 for the right to run one does not change that.

5. Visually: the $15 entry, capped on orders

Visually is the cheapest paid tool on this list and it is not close. The App Store listing reads "Free plan available. Free trial available.", shows a 4.8 rating from 144 reviews, launched June 15, 2022. A free plan covers development stores. Paid plans are $15 a month for up to 100 orders, $25 for up to 200, and $80 for up to 600, each with a 14-day trial, and every tier lists unlimited A/B tests, an AI visual editor, personalization, and unlimited recommendations, upsells and post-purchase offers.

The order cap is the whole story. A store doing 2,000 orders a month is off the published ladder, and visually.io/pricing carries no static dollar figure for what comes next. Price testing does not appear in any plan's feature list.

Skip it if you are above a few hundred orders a month or want a price test. Take it seriously if you are small and also want upsells.

6. Convert: the VWO experience with a published price

Convert is the tool to consider if what you liked about VWO was VWO: a visual editor, a proper stats engine, tests not tied to Shopify's theme structure. The difference is that Convert prints its prices. Growth is $399 a month, or $299 billed annually at $3,588 a year. Pro is $599 a month, or $420 billed annually at $5,040. Enterprise is "Price on Request", annual only. Both published tiers include "100K tested users/month", with overage at $399 per 100K on Growth and $699 per 250K on Pro, which "Can Be Turned Off". The trial is 15 days.

On Shopify it is a script. The App Store listing "Convert Experiences", launched October 25, 2024, is free to install, "requires a Convert.com account", and shows 0 reviews: the same shape as VWO's listing, a connector that loads the real tool.

Skip it if you are well under 100K tested users a month, because the price does not scale down, or if you want price tests; Convert changes the page, not the price.

7. Omniconvert: free to 50K tested users, script-based

Omniconvert's Explore product has a genuinely free tier: "50K users/month" at $0, no credit card, with unlimited A/B/n tests, unlimited goals and advanced segmentation. The pricing page lists further tiers at 100K, 300K, 500K, 700K, 1M and above 2M users a month with an annual option marked "SAVE 30%", but the paid figures render in the browser and do not appear in the page itself, so this page does not quote them.

There is no Shopify App Store listing; apps.shopify.com/omniconvert returns a 404. It runs from a script, like VWO.

Skip it if you want anything native, or you are above 50K tested users and need to know the price before a sales call. Use it if you are small, comfortable with a script, and want a free tier without a clock on it.

8. Kameleoon: $495 for prompt-built tests at 50K visitors

Kameleoon publishes one price, which is more than VWO does. Its plans page (kameleoon.com/pricing is a 404; the live page is /plans) sells a PBX Starter plan "Starting from $495/month" to "test 50,000 visitors per month", with up to 10 experiments and one project. PBX is prompt-based experimentation: describe the change, the tool builds it. A 30-day trial with no credit card allows 3 experiments. Enterprise is contact sales, and both plans list a "Shopify extension", though there is no App Store listing at apps.shopify.com/kameleoon and the tests run from a script.

Skip it if you are anywhere near 50,000 visitors a month, because the only published plan stops there and the next one is a quote. At $495 for 50K visitors, Shoplift's Core plan tests the same traffic natively for $99.

Also considered: AB Tasty

AB Tasty is on every enterprise list and not on this one for a simple reason: its pricing page says "No fixed plans. Just a custom proposal built around your goals and scope." Pricing is set on "average traffic over the past 12 months or on monthly active users (MAUs)". There is no free trial, only a "proof of concept" of "1 to 2 weeks", and no App Store listing (apps.shopify.com/ab-tasty is a 404). If you are leaving VWO because the price was a demo, AB Tasty is the same door.

Picks by store size

Half these tools meter on orders, not sessions, so each band names both. Picks, not rules.

  • Under 10k sessions, a few hundred orders. Do not buy a splitter yet. Run Rollouts if you are on Grow; if you want a paid tool, Visually at $15 to $80 by order count is the only ladder that fits. Most tests at this size will not conclude.
  • 10k to 50k sessions. Shoplift Core at $99 (up to 50k visitors) for theme tests, or Intelligems Smart Content at $69 for profit per visitor. Add ABConvert Growth at $199 only when you have the orders for a price test.
  • 50k to 250k sessions. Shoplift Core at $199 up to 100k, then Advanced at $599. Intelligems Unlimited at $349 covers everything. Convert Growth at $399 makes sense at 100K tested users if you want an editor that ignores theme structure.
  • 250k to 500k sessions. Shoplift Advanced at $799 or Intelligems Unlimited at $349 natively; Convert Pro at $599 as the script. Kameleoon, VWO, Optimizely and AB Tasty are all a quote at this size.

Disclosure. We are building StorePilot, a CRO tool for Shopify. It is not on the Shopify App Store and cannot be installed on a live store yet, so this page has nothing to sell you today. Every tool above is one you can install this afternoon.

Questions merchants keep asking

What is the best VWO alternative for a Shopify store?
For most Shopify stores under 500k sessions a month, Shoplift. It runs theme, template and URL tests from inside Shopify as an app, gives a Bayesian verdict, and publishes its whole price ladder: $99 a month at up to 50k monthly visitors, with price testing arriving on the $399 Advanced tier (shoplift.ai/pricing and the App Store listing, September 3, 2026). If your tests are about money rather than layout, Intelligems from $69 a month is the stronger pick.
VWO vs Optimizely: which is better for Shopify?
Neither publishes a price, and neither is a Shopify app in the ordinary sense. VWO's Shopify listing is free to install, requires a VWO subscription, and had zero reviews on September 3, 2026; the only App Store listing carrying the Optimizely name is a third-party connector by a developer called Impress, also with zero reviews. VWO's edge is a real 30-day trial and a free tier up to 50k monthly tested visitors after it. Optimizely's plans page says every plan is individually packaged, with no trial mentioned. For a store under 500k sessions, both are the wrong shape.
Is there a free VWO alternative?
Two, with different limits. Shopify Rollouts carries no app fee and runs whole-theme experiments, but the experiment feature needs the Grow plan or higher and it cannot touch prices. Omniconvert's Explore product has a free tier at 50K tested users a month with no credit card. VWO itself has a free tier after its 30-day trial, capped at 50k monthly tested visitors, so if you are leaving VWO purely on cost, check whether you were ever above that cap.
What does VWO actually cost?
VWO does not publish a figure. Its pricing page lists Growth, Pro and Enterprise tiers and routes every one to a demo request, and its FAQ explains that each VWO product keeps a separate MTU quota. The only hard numbers on vwo.com are the trial terms: 30 days, no credit card, then free up to 50k monthly tested visitors. Our VWO pricing guide covers what the quote tends to look like.
Which VWO alternative can A/B test prices on Shopify?
Three of the eight. ABConvert runs price tests from its $199 Growth tier, metered at 5,000 test orders. Intelligems includes price testing in its $349 Unlimited plan, and sells a Smart Pricing module on its build-your-own plan. Shoplift lists price testing as a beta feature on its $399 Advanced tier. Rollouts, Convert, Omniconvert and Kameleoon change what the page shows, not what Shopify charges.
Which VWO alternative is cheapest?
Visually, at $15 a month for up to 100 orders, then $25 for 200 and $80 for 600, with unlimited A/B tests on every tier. That is an order cap, not a session cap. Free options are Rollouts and Omniconvert's Explore Free tier.
Does a VWO alternative need to inject a script into my theme?
Four of the eight do not. Shopify Rollouts is a Shopify feature; Shoplift, Intelligems, ABConvert and Visually install as Shopify apps. Convert, Omniconvert and Kameleoon run from a snippet on your storefront, even where a connector app or extension exists.
How is Shoplift priced by traffic?
By monthly store visitors, on a slider. Core is $99 a month up to 50k visitors and $199 from 50k to 100k, and is not offered above that. Advanced is $399 up to 100k, $599 to 250k, $799 to 500k and $999 to 1M. Pro is annual only at $699, $999 or $1,499 a month by band. Above 1M it is custom pricing.
Why does Intelligems cost $69 on the App Store but over $1,000 on its website?
Different plans at different order tiers. The App Store shows Smart Content at $69 a month, Smart Merchandise and Smart Shipping at $112.10, and Unlimited at $349. Intelligems.io shows a Get Everything Bundle at $2,894 a month, discounted to $1,279 with a 3-month minimum, at its top tier of up to 200,000 orders. Start from the App Store ladder.
Should I switch from VWO to Optimizely instead?
Only if you have outgrown Shopify's app ecosystem entirely, which at under 500k sessions you have not. Optimizely's plans page publishes no price and no trial, and its Shopify presence is a third-party connector with no reviews. If VWO's demo-gated pricing pushed you to look, Optimizely is the same experience with less to try for free; our Optimizely pricing guide for Shopify has the detail.

A note on sources. Every price, limit, rating and review count on this page was read off a live response from the vendor's own pricing page, Shopify's Help Center and changelog, or the tool's Shopify App Store listing on September 3, 2026. Where a vendor renders a price only in the browser (Intelligems' per-module builder, Omniconvert's paid tiers, visually.io's own pricing page) that figure is not quoted. Prices change; re-check before you buy.
