Optimizely Alternatives for Shopify: 8 Tools, Priced 2026

Last verified:

For a Shopify store under 500k sessions a month, the best Optimizely alternative is Intelligems: a native app that tests prices, shipping, offers, checkout and content, scores every test on profit per visitor, and publishes its ladder from $69 a month with a 14-day trial. If your tests are layouts and themes rather than money, Shoplift from $99 does that job with less to configure. And the free first step for any store on the Grow plan is Shopify Rollouts, which splits whole themes with no app fee.

By Misha Gavura · 14 min read · Every price on this page was read off the vendor's own pricing page or Shopify App Store listing on September 3, 2026. Nothing here comes from a third-party roundup.

All eight, one table

Ranked for a Shopify store under 500k sessions a month. "Native" means a Shopify app or a Shopify feature that does not inject a script into your theme. Entry price is the lowest monthly figure the vendor publishes today; "custom proposal" means it publishes none.

Tool Entry price Metered on Native or script Price testing Best for
Intelligems $69 / mo Monthly orders Shopify app Unlimited ($349) Profit-scored tests, price to post-purchase
Shoplift $99 / mo Monthly store visitors Shopify app Advanced ($399), beta Theme and template tests with a verdict
Shopify Rollouts No app fee (Grow plan or higher for experiments) None Shopify feature No Whole-theme and checkout tests, free
ABConvert $99 / mo Test orders Shopify app Growth ($199) Price and shipping tests on a metered budget
Convert $399 / mo ($299 annual) Monthly tested users Script (free connector app) No Optimizely-style editor with a printed price
Kameleoon $495 / mo Tested visitors Script No Prompt-built tests up to 50K visitors
AB Tasty Custom proposal 12-month average traffic or MAUs Script No Enterprise buyers who want a proof of concept
Visually $15 / mo Monthly orders Shopify app Not listed Very small stores that also want upsells

The baseline you are leaving: Optimizely publishes no price, no tiers and no trial, and the only Shopify App Store listing carrying its name is a third-party connector with zero reviews. Detail in the next section and in our Optimizely pricing guide for Shopify.

Why Shopify stores leave Optimizely

Everything below is on Optimizely's own pages today. None of it is an opinion about the product, which has one of the better stats engines in the category.

There is no price. optimizely.com/plans contains no plan names and no dollar figure. The page's entire answer to "how much" is one sentence: "Every Optimizely plan is individually packaged. Tell us a bit about your digital needs, and we'll create a plan together." The call to action is "Request a demo". The Web Experimentation product page adds a features list ("A/B, multi-page, feature and server-side testing", a "Proprietary Stats Engine") and, on the day I read it, no mention of pricing, plans, a trial or Shopify.

There is no trial. The plans page mentions none. Compare VWO, whose pricing page is equally silent on price but does offer a 30-day full-featured trial and a free tier up to 50k monthly tested visitors after it (our VWO pricing guide and VWO on Shopify review cover what that looks like in practice). Optimizely asks for the conversation first.

The Shopify listing is not Optimizely's. Search the App Store and you find "Optimizely by Impress", launched April 4, 2018, built by a developer called Impress in Oakland. Its description opens: "If you already use Optimizely, this app offers a one-click solution to integrate your store." It sells Basic at $29 a month "for stores on the Basic and Shopify plans", Advanced at $99 and Plus at $299, each with a 7-day trial, and shows a 0.0 rating from 0 reviews. Those are connector fees on top of whatever Optimizely itself quotes you. The experiment still runs from Optimizely's script on your storefront.

1. Intelligems: the closest thing to Optimizely's scope, natively

Optimizely's pitch is breadth: test anything, measure with a real stats engine. On Shopify, the native tool with the widest scope is Intelligems. It tests content and themes, prices, shipping rates and thresholds, discounts, checkout and post-purchase offers, and reports profit per visitor rather than conversion rate. The App Store listing shows a 4.8 rating from 189 reviews, launched December 1, 2021, "From $69/month. Free trial available."

App Store plan Per month Per year What it covers
Smart Content $69 $660 Landing pages, themes, content; AI edits; profit per visitor
Smart Merchandise $112.10 $1,071.60 Smart Content plus discounts, upsells, quantity breaks, free gifts
Smart Shipping $112.10 $1,071.60 Smart Content plus shipping thresholds and rate personalization
Unlimited $349 $3,468 Everything, unlimited tests, storefront audit, success manager

Every plan carries a 14-day trial. Price testing sits in Unlimited on the App Store, and as a Smart Pricing module on the build-your-own plan at intelligems.io. That site prices a larger store: a "Get Everything Bundle" at $2,894 a month, discounted to $1,279 with a 3-month minimum, at its top tier of "Up to 200,000 orders", plus a build-your-own plan for up to 10,000 orders a month with 5%, 10% and 15% bundle discounts. The per-module prices on that builder only render in the browser and are not quoted here. Our Intelligems pricing page tracks both surfaces, and if Intelligems is itself the thing you are leaving, we keep a list of Intelligems alternatives.

Skip it if you never intend to test a price, a shipping rate or an offer. For pure layout tests you are paying for machinery you will not touch, and Shoplift or Rollouts will do the job with less setup.

2. Shoplift: theme and template tests, fully priced

Shoplift runs template, theme and URL tests from inside Shopify, reports with "Bayesian predictive analysis", segments mobile against desktop and applies the winner in one click. The App Store listing shows a 4.9 rating from 134 reviews, launched September 15, 2022, "From $99/month", with a 14-day trial on every plan. Price testing is on the Advanced tier and labelled "beta".

What makes it the opposite of Optimizely is the slider on shoplift.ai/pricing. Core is $99 a month up to 50k monthly store visitors and $199 from 50k to 100k, and is not offered above that. Advanced is $399 a month up to 100k, $599 to 250k, $799 to 500k and $999 to 1M. Pro is annual only, at $699, $999 or $1,499 a month by band. Annual billing brings Core to $74 or $149 and Advanced to $299, $449, $599 or $749. Above 1M every column reads "Custom pricing". The App Store listing shows the $99, $399 and $999 rungs; note that it prices Pro monthly while the site sells Pro as annual only.

Skip it if your tests are about money. It can run a price test on Advanced, but Intelligems and ABConvert were built for that and meter on orders, which is the unit a price test reads on. Shoplift vs Intelligems draws that line in detail.

3. Shopify Rollouts: the free one, with two gates

Rollouts is Shopify's own A/B test. The Help Center defines a rollout as a scheduled set of changes to "your online store's main theme, your checkout and accounts pages, or both", in two types: a launch, and an experiment that "compares a treatment against a control so that you can measure their impact before a full launch". The traffic split uses "preset options or by using the slider". Shopify's product page promises "Statistical analysis with confidence metrics that anyone can use" and "no extra fees".

The gates: "Your store must be on the Grow plan or higher to run experiments", per the Help Center. The March 31, 2026 changelog puts scheduling on "Basic plans and above" and market-specific targeting on "Advanced and Plus". And a rollout is a whole-theme or whole-checkout split. It cannot change a price, a discount or a shipping rate, because none of those is a theme.

Skip it if you are on Basic, or your test is a price. Otherwise run it first; it is the cheapest possible way to learn whether your traffic can conclude a test at all. Our Rollouts guide covers the setup and how to read the result.

4. ABConvert: price tests from $199, metered on orders

ABConvert is the second native price-testing app. The App Store listing (live slug a-b-convert-price-a-b-test; apps.shopify.com/abconvert is a 404) shows a 4.6 rating from 83 reviews, launched October 31, 2022, "From $99/month", 14-day trial throughout.

Starter is $99 with 1,000 test orders and $59 per further thousand. Growth is $199 with 5,000 and $39 per thousand, and is where price testing starts. Scale is $399 with 15,000 and $29 per thousand, adding multi-market price tests. Pro is $599 with 30,000 and $24 per thousand. Shipping, checkout, offer, template, theme and URL tests are on every tier including Starter. abconvert.io shows annual billing at $74, $149, $299 and $449 a month.

Skip it if your orders are thin; a price test on 200 orders a month will not conclude, and no plan changes that.

5. Convert: the Optimizely experience with a printed price

If what you want from Optimizely is a visual editor and a stats engine that ignores Shopify's theme structure, Convert offers that with a public number attached. Growth is $399 a month, or $299 billed annually at $3,588 a year. Pro is $599 a month, or $420 billed annually at $5,040. Enterprise is "Price on Request", annual only. Both published tiers include "100K tested users/month"; overage is $399 per 100K on Growth and $699 per 250K on Pro, and "Can Be Turned Off". The trial is 15 days.

On Shopify it is a script. The App Store listing "Convert Experiences", launched October 25, 2024, is free to install, "requires a Convert.com account" and shows 0 reviews: the same shape as the Optimizely and VWO listings.

Skip it if you are well under 100K tested users a month, because the price does not scale down. Skip it if you want a price test; Convert changes the page, not the price.

6. Kameleoon: one public plan, then a quote

Kameleoon publishes exactly one price, which already beats Optimizely. Its plans page (kameleoon.com/plans; /pricing is a 404) sells PBX Starter "Starting from $495/month" to "test 50,000 visitors per month", with up to 10 experiments in one project. PBX is prompt-based experimentation: describe the change, the tool builds it. The 30-day trial needs no credit card and allows 3 experiments. Enterprise is contact sales. Both plans list a "Shopify extension", though there is no App Store listing at apps.shopify.com/kameleoon and the tests run from a script.

Skip it if you are anywhere near 50,000 visitors a month, because the published plan stops there and the next step is a quote, which is what you were trying to leave. At $495 for 50K visitors it is also five times Shoplift's price for the same traffic.

7. AB Tasty: a custom proposal, but with a proof of concept

AB Tasty is on this list rather than in the footnote because it is the one enterprise tool that offers a way to try it without a contract. Its pricing page is explicit: "No fixed plans. Just a custom proposal built around your goals and scope." Pricing is set on "average traffic over the past 12 months or on monthly active users (MAUs)", and the page promises "no hidden fees". There is no free trial; instead there is a free "proof of concept" lasting "1 to 2 weeks" on your real site before any commitment.

There is no Shopify App Store listing (apps.shopify.com/ab-tasty is a 404), so it runs from a script like Optimizely does. No dollar figure appears anywhere on the pricing page, so none appears here.

Skip it if you were hoping to see a price before a call. It is the Optimizely buying experience with a two-week test drive added; take the call only once you have outgrown every native app on this page.

8. Visually: $15 a month, capped on orders

Visually is the cheapest paid tool here by a wide margin. The App Store listing reads "Free plan available. Free trial available.", shows a 4.8 rating from 144 reviews, launched June 15, 2022. A free plan covers development stores. Paid plans are $15 a month for up to 100 orders, $25 for up to 200, and $80 for up to 600, each with a 14-day trial, and every tier lists unlimited A/B tests, an AI visual editor, personalization, and unlimited recommendations, upsells and post-purchase offers.

The cap is on orders, so a high-traffic, low-order store gets a lot for $80. Above 600 orders a month the published ladder ends, and visually.io/pricing carries no static figure for what follows. Price testing is not listed on any plan.

Skip it if you are past a few hundred orders a month or want a price test. Take it seriously if you are small and also want upsells.

Also considered: Omniconvert

Omniconvert's Explore product has a free tier at "50K users/month", $0, no credit card, with unlimited A/B/n tests, and paid tiers from 100K to more than 2M users a month. The paid prices render only in the browser, there is no App Store listing (apps.shopify.com/omniconvert is a 404), and it runs from a script. A fair free option for a small store that does not mind a snippet; not a published-price alternative above 50K users, which is why it is a note rather than a rank.

Picks by store size

Half of these tools meter on orders rather than sessions, so each band names both. Picks, not rules.

  • Under 10k sessions, a few hundred orders. No splitter will conclude much here. Run Rollouts if you are on Grow; if you want a paid tool, Visually at $15 to $80 by order count is the only ladder built for you.
  • 10k to 50k sessions. Intelligems Smart Content at $69 for profit per visitor, or Shoplift Core at $99 (up to 50k visitors) for theme tests. Add ABConvert Growth at $199 once you have the orders for a price test.
  • 50k to 250k sessions. Intelligems Unlimited at $349 covers every test type. Shoplift is $199 on Core up to 100k, then Advanced at $599. Convert Growth at $399 for 100K tested users is the script option.
  • 250k to 500k sessions. Intelligems Unlimited at $349 or Shoplift Advanced at $799 natively; Convert Pro at $599 as the script. Kameleoon, AB Tasty and Optimizely are all a quote at this size.

Disclosure. We are building StorePilot, a CRO tool for Shopify. It is not on the Shopify App Store and cannot be installed on a live store yet, so this page has nothing to sell you today. Every tool above is one you can install this afternoon.

Questions merchants keep asking

What is the best Optimizely alternative for a Shopify store?
For most Shopify stores under 500k sessions a month, Intelligems. It tests content, prices, shipping, discounts, checkout and post-purchase offers as a native Shopify app, scores results on profit per visitor, and publishes its ladder on the App Store from $69 a month with a 14-day trial (apps.shopify.com/intelligems, September 3, 2026). If you only test themes and layouts, Shoplift from $99 is simpler and cheaper for that job.
Optimizely vs VWO: which should a Shopify store pick?
On today's pages, VWO, and only because it lets you try before you talk to sales. Optimizely's plans page publishes no price and no trial and says every plan is individually packaged. VWO's pricing page also publishes no price, but offers a 30-day trial with no credit card and a free tier up to 50k monthly tested visitors after it. Both run from a script, and both Shopify listings had zero reviews on September 3, 2026; the Optimizely one is a third-party connector by a developer called Impress. For a store under 500k sessions, a native app beats either.
How much does Optimizely cost?
Optimizely does not say. Its plans page reads, in full on the pricing question: "Every Optimizely plan is individually packaged. Tell us a bit about your digital needs, and we'll create a plan together." There is no dollar figure, no tier list and no trial on the page. The $29, $99 and $299 plans on the Shopify App Store belong to a third-party connector called Optimizely by Impress, not to Optimizely itself, and they require an existing Optimizely account. Our Optimizely pricing guide covers what a Shopify store can expect from the quote.
Is there a free Optimizely alternative?
Shopify Rollouts, with two conditions. It carries no app fee, but the experiment feature needs the Grow plan or higher, and it can only change your theme and your checkout and accounts configuration, so it cannot test a price. Omniconvert's Explore product also has a free tier at 50K tested users a month, script-based, no credit card.
Which Optimizely alternative can A/B test prices on Shopify?
Intelligems, on its $349 Unlimited plan or through its Smart Pricing module on the build-your-own plan. ABConvert, from its $199 Growth tier, metered at 5,000 test orders. Shoplift, as a beta feature on its $399 Advanced tier. Rollouts, Convert, Kameleoon and AB Tasty change what a visitor sees, not what Shopify charges them.
Which Optimizely alternative is cheapest?
Visually, at $15 a month for up to 100 orders, $25 for 200 and $80 for 600, with unlimited A/B tests on every tier and a free plan for development stores. Among tools that publish a traffic-based price rather than an order cap, Shoplift Core at $99 for up to 50k monthly visitors is the floor.
Which alternatives avoid injecting a script into my theme?
Four of the eight. Shopify Rollouts is built into the admin; Intelligems, Shoplift, ABConvert and Visually are Shopify apps. Convert, Kameleoon and AB Tasty run from a snippet on the storefront, the same way Optimizely does, even where a connector app or extension exists.
What does Convert cost compared with Optimizely?
Convert prints its numbers, which is the comparison. Growth is $399 a month or $299 billed annually; Pro is $599 a month or $420 billed annually. Both include 100K tested users a month, with overage at $399 per 100K on Growth and $699 per 250K on Pro. Enterprise is price on request, annual only. The trial is 15 days. Optimizely publishes none of those figures.
Why does Intelligems show $69 on the App Store but $1,279 on its website?
Different plans at different order volumes. The App Store lists Smart Content at $69, Smart Merchandise and Smart Shipping at $112.10, and Unlimited at $349 a month. The website shows a Get Everything Bundle at $2,894 a month, discounted to $1,279 with a 3-month minimum, at its top tier of up to 200,000 orders. A store under 500k sessions will see the App Store ladder at checkout.
Is Kameleoon a good Optimizely alternative for Shopify?
Only for a small store that wants prompt-built tests and does not mind a script. Its one published plan, PBX Starter, starts at $495 a month to test 50,000 visitors with up to 10 experiments. Above that it is a quote, which puts it back in Optimizely's category. Shoplift tests the same 50k visitors natively for $99.

A note on sources. Every price, limit, rating and review count on this page was read off a live response from the vendor's own pricing page, Shopify's Help Center and changelog, or the tool's Shopify App Store listing on September 3, 2026. Where a vendor renders a price only in the browser (Intelligems' per-module builder, Omniconvert's paid tiers, visually.io's own pricing page) that figure is not quoted. Prices change; re-check before you buy.
